I know this is not strictly eventing, but if someone could help me out it would be great. Recently, I tried to enter a showjumping comp at a local show. They said I had to be registered with the EFA, fair enough. But they also said that my horse had to be registered. Now I had the understanding that the horse didnt have to be registered up until a certain height class, just like in eventing. Is this correct? And if so, what is the height? I thought it would have been a good opportunity to get a bit more sj experience for me and the horse. I queried the show commitee and they didnt know, they asked me to find out about it.

Any official classes the horse has to be registered for and have a showjumping card so any official D, C, B or A grade class and probably your JR classes. Usually the shows run height classes also and rego is not usually required for these classes.

Yes, the classes I was interested in were the lower height classes and they were definitely not official ones. Im thinking that they asked for horse registration because there was a YR equitation qualifier class on the same jumping program. I asked them if that was the case and they didnt know of I needed horse reg for the other classes or not. Thanks for shedding some light on the matter!

they are dumbasses Erica, its a bit weird that they are running official classes and dont have an idea about the rules.
go to the EFA website and print off the rules and give them a copy to read up on.
you are allowed to enter non official classes without the horse being registered!

Its crazy isnt it. When I asked them about it they didnt seem to know where the rules had come from, let alone why they were using them. Like they just pulled them out of nowhere. All I want is to be able to compete in the local show! If I was competing more often and at a higher level I probably would register my horse but it just doesnt seem worth it yet....
