I am unsure of this one, But in eventing dressage in the official levels MUST the dressage section of the event be ridden in a dressage saddle? or can it be done in a jumping saddle considering it is still and English type saddle? Aside from all the reasons to ride in a dressage saddle, I am just wondering if it is legal to be done.

funny you should bring this up, I think someone was eliminated at SIEC on weekend for just this rule. In Eventing rules it says an English saddle, but in dressage rules it states a dressage saddle. I'm sure Vicki will set us straight

I've done it at PC without any problems and I know my friend rode intro dressage at canberra in one?
I don't think there is a rule which is inforced about riding in a dressage saddle at official lower level dressage comps, many of my friends have ridden in AP saddles up to official novice...

The FEI Eventing rule is:
522 2.1. The following are compulsory: an English type saddle and a permitted bridle.
(The National rule is the same, so it covers all levels of Eventing competitions. The saddle does not need to be a dressage saddle.
Another FEI Eventing Dressage rule worth remembering is: FEI 526 1.4. After elimination (except when eliminated for marked lameness), a competitor may continue his performance to the end. The marks will be awarded in the ordinary way.
So if you are at an Eventing competition and the DR judge eliminates you, politely request to continue your test if you want and the politely remind the judge to continue to mark the movements.
Then if you have been eliminated because of a 'straight' dressage rule that is not applicable to Eventing dressage, you can ask the Ground Jury or TD (if a national comp) to reconsider your elimination.
