Maybe this is old news to everyone else, but I'd love to know why dressage whips aren't allowed in eventing, when in every other respect, rules appear to be set to standardise with those in dressage and show jumping.

Since nobody seems to know why dressage whips aren't allowed, and since nobody can come up with one good reason for disallowing them, has anyone ever thought about getting the rule changed? Through all the correct channels, of course, but I am conVINCEd that our president can move mountains.

The reason whips and callers are not allowed in eventing dressage is that eventing is run under FEI rules.

The EFA tries to mantain parity with FEI Rules wherever possible, so that we don't suddenly have different rules when we run an FEI Event. The FEI say No Whips, and thats why we don't have whips. And it is pretty hard to change FEI Rules, without an extra good argument. Vince

The original reason for not having dressage whips in eventing is that eventing was a "military" sport .. indeed, up until the 50's it was known as "The Military" in the Olympics. And the cavalry could not carry whips as they needed their hand for wielding sabres and spears! Interesting eh?! Vince
