NSW Showjumping Council updated their rules (in June 2002) as follows: "Showjumping competitors who elect to wear a safety vest while competing may elect not to wear riding jackets. This rule has been introduced in the interest of the competitors safety and comfort and will be effective immediately." This is copied from their website.
Is NSW Eventing going to adopt the same rule (or does it automatically apply)?

Thanks to Vince Roche, the rules regarding the wearing of body protectors in the showjumping phase of eventing have been changed. There has also been a change regarding boots. The amended rule book is at www.efanational.com/content/attachments/rules/eventingrulebook.pdfand the dress rule is #59 (on page 42). That paragraph now reads: Dress • Service dress or hunting dress. A safety vest may be used with or instead of a jacket. If it is worn without a jacket, a long sleeve white shirt and tie or stock must be worn. • Boots (other than as part of regulation service dress) must be black or black with a brown top. They must either be long boots in one piece or a full grain smooth leather leg piece and leather boot. Juniors may compete in jodhpurs and short boots. • Approved helmets are compulsory for anyone jumping an obstacle. • Approved helmets must be either AS/NZS 3838 (Current Australian Standard), or EN 1384 (Current European Standard), or ASTN F1163 (Current US Standard). The amended wording is highlighted yellow on the efanational website, but it didn't copy across. Thanks again, Vince, for your efforts in bringing about this victory for common sense. Linda
