I am wondering if there is a rule to say you will be eliminated if when walking the course you climb or walk over a jump. Just trying to teach the children the right protocole.
The second querie is one that has been asked before and wasn't answered (maybe it is explained all the time) - why are dressage whips not allowed in the dressage tests - not suggesting that they should be but I would be interested to know why not or is it just tradition.
Thanks for you help

Linda,
Nothing in the rules about climbing over fences. Use common sense!
And I don't know the history of whips in eventing dressage, but to hazard a guess, it probably stems from the millitary origins of the sport .. a cavalry officer couldn't carry a whip, as he already was carrying a sword!!! (Educated guess only)

in my younger years the only problem with crawling over the jumps was getting sump oil on my joddies but unless these rules have changes recently we used to do this and have competitions with other competitors as to whoes dog could jump the most fences(back when it was never thought to leave them at home) so use your own descretion, the use of wips i had thought to be a issue with the wip being used with high level dressage horses where as eventers are supposed to do everything with the limited use of material aid's, yet again another gess

On my first ever course walk I was told that it is bad luck to climb over the jump you are jumping and so I have never ever climbed over one of my own jumps! I'm not really superstitious!!!

The whip thing is to do with eventing being a National sport (run under national rules) as dressage is state level. the rules have changed for dressage i think as they are now allowed whips for the nationals too. I walk over jumps if they are not too big, dont think there is a rule against it except that you cannot modify the jump, ie pull bark off it or something.

I don't think you are allowed to walk or climb over Show Jumps. Have a look in the FEI show Jumping rules.
If it is not specifically covered in the Eventing rules, it is covered under the FEI Show Jumping rules.

you can walk over cross country jumps, not showjumps... and if i remember right vince was correct in saying the whip thing is the military background, but i believe we have had this discussion on here before.. it was quite popular too, so you might want to look back a bit for it!
