Really disappointed for Shane and his support crew. He/ they have put in such a huge effort over the past couple of years to earn selection. As an eventing supporter I have been a bit disppointed not to hear more about our team. Not much pomp and ceremony when they left, don't know where they are pre training, who went with them etc. Maybe there is another website with all this information? Without our 'local' rider leading the way it is quite difficult to maintain the enthusiasm. Such bad luck for Shane.

Sue, heaps of information here: www.aet.equestrian.org.au/ and on the EA Facebook page www.facebook.com/#!/EquestrianAustralia, AND in the mainstream and equestrian media - including An Eventful Life and Equestrian Life.

www.equestrian.org.au/default.asp?Page=29527I'm with you Sue, this (above) is the best I can find, but I can't find any update about who they decided to replace Bill Levett with. I do think the information is poor. Maybe the Elite Squad, Elite Holding Squad, National A Squad and Futures Squad lists also need updating on a more regular basis, as it seems this 'hierarchy' goes out the window when the final selection actually happens?? I can't see Lucinda's horse even on these lists (perhaps I'm blind). It is confusing for those not directly in the know, but those of us still very interested in what is happening. There must be a lot of disappointed/frustrated riders and owners out there......but I guess it must also be horribly contraversial for the selectors and those 'in the know'. Very sad for Shane and Taurus though. Hope Taurus makes a speedy recovery. Very best of luck for Megan, she's a champion and such a nice person, hope all goes well.

Another link to keep yur eye on: london2012.olympics.com.au/media/063E2C60-D422-11E1-BA8A005056A37760The senior A and Elite squads are revised in January and July, and the Futures Squads in December. Selectors can add combinations to squads following outstanding performances - information is available in the HP Handbook about this process - not sure what is "horribly controversial" about it! Lucinda's horse will no doubt be added to the Elite Squad as of July. And the information about Sam Griffiths replacing Bill Levett as a reserve appeared here: www.equestrian.org.au/default.asp?Page=29642 . Often the riders own websites will provide more information - if they are happy to divulge it.

What a devastating blow for Shane and his team. To get all the way over there..........
I think selection was contraversial with appeals lodged in dressage & eventing. I thought show jumping also.
It has caused me to take a closer look at the selection process to better understand the decisions taken. I think one problem could be that at the grass roots, my thoughts are that we all think that the horse/rider combinations with the best results over a period of time will automatically be chosen.
For eventing, there is a competition criteria to meet, the tricky bit is the general criteria. For example, performances at recent events maybe taken into consideration in comparison to performances achieved earlier.
For example, you can do extremely well earlier/in the previous 2 years but if somebody puts in a performance 3 weeks before selection (recent) and it is considered to be outstanding then you can be selected over somebody who may of slogged their guts out for 2 years or more obtaining good consistant results.
As I said earlier - what do you aim for if you are trying to put together a plan/campaign?? Early peformances or recent performances?
Competition criteria - one part talks about a total penalty score of 62 or less. A little further down the page is says, in part, that in exceptional circumstances etc, etc the high performance manager may waive the requirement to achieve the stated score. Also, (i.) horses with outstanding ability in XC, jumping or dressage but which have not achieved the stated score.
So - you can still be picked even if you haven't achieved the stated score if it is considered that you have outstanding ability in dr/sj/xc. What's the point in having the score or aiming for that score??
In summary, after reading the general criteria my understanding is that selectors can recommend to the AOC anybody they like at any time from the elite squad, holding squad or A squad. Those squads amount to around 20 or so riders. Rider combinations can be nominated to the squads at any time. When it is all said and done I don't know that there is a criteria that can be followed when there are many ways/reasons to be selected or not selected according to the general criteria.
Seems as though you have to hang in there and maybe you'll be selected, maybe you won't. Cross your fingers and hope you peak at the right time.
This criteria can be viewed on the EA national web site under High Performance (HP). Vicki B did say that Flying Finish was added to the list, can't remember when she said, maybe late last year??
Michelle H - you are good at puttings things into words. What advice would you give your child in relation to what you have to do to be selected to the olympic team?
