Try Pru Barrett - I have had lessons from her and she is great. She's a level 2 instructor I think.

Prue & Craig Barrett 4938 3308 (its in the eventer)
There's heaps of good ones based at Lochinvar. From memory there's also Sam Lyle, Heath Ryan, Tarsha Hammond, Boyd Martin. I think there are heaps more, some others could add for you.

Thanks LD. Heath Ryan (could be wrong) could be out of my budget? Obviously the local eventers have to know something about dressage but I was hoping to weed out a dressage purist I guess who's forte is dressage. Does anyone have any experience with dressage lessons from any of those guys? (And Tarsha-sorry!) I have moved recently and looking for a closer dressage tutor (desperately need it). I'll give Prue a call though and see how we go, thanks.
Oh and ofcourse Rozzie Ryan...might be worth a splurge-Ill have to find out her rates.

Hi ELH, I'm sure Rozzie is as expensive as Heath, or she could be more maybe. Not sure of the rate, but I've heard it might be something in the 80's for Heath. I bet both are amazing instructors though!
Looking at the results of all those riders I mentioned, they're always up there with their rankings. I have just changed to an eventing instructor myself after having dressage only and SJ only instructor, and must say I find just having the one instructor for all disciplines very useful. With an eventing instructor they can also help you out at comps because they're usually there themselves.

If your looking for a great instuctor - go to Tarsha. She is absolutely amazing, gets your horse & yourself going so fantastic. She has just gone up to $66 an hour but definetly worth it. I went from bottom in dressage to consistently in the top 10. And that was at both eventing & pure dressage. Tarsha has also riden pure dressage, in fact she picked up champ novice at state last year. Not bad for an eventer! Her number is 0409306710.

Now that is a recommendation... thanks. I have had a mini session with Tarsha for showjumping and thought she was brilliant, but it is good to hear that an instructor really is useful at dressage before you spend your money. I will give her a try then.

i dont know about her lessons, but two people i know are having their horses trained by her.. one of them is a medium level dressage horse, and he's going great with her and the other one is a young eventer, who is always top 5 after dressage!

Well, it certainly seems Tarsha is one to go with... if I can get a slot after all this publicity for her! I've since had further reports of how she has improved people. I'll post a report after our first lesson...

Happy to report that Tarsha is a very effective and pleasant instructor, to whom I will be going back! I would list her in the top two of instructors I have ever had. Word for anyone interested: book in advance, she's popular.(And what a fabulous spot she has out there!)
