Hey everyone, If anyone could answer my question they would be a HUGE help to me. My horse dosn't round up or flex unless I have been working him for HOURS - with the exception that I use draw reins for twenty minutes or so before I start doing anything else. I was wondering if we are allowed to use draw reins in warm up before a dressage test at an event - I know you arn't allowed to use them in the actual test, but if you could answer my question you'd be helping me alot. Cheers, Sophie

I am under the impression that you cannot use them at all in the warm up as well but I dont really know could be wrong

woah, it's amazing how harsh the eventing rules are, i suppose im use to hacky rules but we could warm up with draw reins etc, theres no td's (thats probably a bad thing however) but i think ill be reading up big time before i consider competing, sorry to interrupt you post but im still learning

Prohibited uner penalty of elimination: -martingales -any kind of gadget (such as bearing, side, running/balancing reins etc) -earmuffs or earplugs -any kind of boot or bandages -bit guards -fly guards (only permitted in exceptional circumstances) -nose covers -seat covers -anyform of blinkers including ear muffs and hoods
This is from the eventing rules for the dsg section - well i was 99.99999% positive that u cud use bandages and boots in the warmup....yet it is under the same section of 'prohibited under penalty of elimination' as is the draw reins??

The rules above relate to the actual test. For warm- up rules see rule 25- Saddlery- Exercise areas.
You can not warm up with draw reins, the only time you can use any type side/running rein is while lungeing.
You can warm-up in a running martingale (rings).
Boots are okay for warm up.

I am under the impression that you cant even lunge in a draw rein type of thing. Side reins are OK to lunge in but Vienna/Triangle reins are prohibited in straight dressage for lungeing.
Draw reins are illegal for warming up. How about trying a double bridle in the warmup or something if you need encouragement to keep him down.

i don't think your allowed to warm up in a double bridle unless your competing in it which your not allowed to do till 2**, however, if the horse is that difficult it is legal to lunge it in side reins, at home i would try lunging it in side reins and then ride it without draw reins (should still work) and do lots and lots of shoulder-in just keep asking. goodluck!
