Hi my palomino horse is green and i was wondering if anyone new how to put on a hood or flymask without her getting freaked and throwing her head up. i have only had her 6 months but as she is a palomino i really need her to have a hood on coming into summer. I have only just recently been able to put on a bib which i guess is an achievment. She is 7 yr but the owners before broke her in and left her for like 5 years, so she has had no training. Everytime i go to put something on her she freaks and throws her head or backups really fast. Any suggestions would be great!Thanx

have your instructor etc look at her. Being head shy is a problem and is hard to fix unless your really experienced. you could try just playing with her ears and face with your hands, gradually working up to using a cloth to rub on her face/ears/neck. Dont be real;ly cautious around her e.g not making any sudden movements so that she doesn't freak out. You have to flick stuff around, make lots of noise and move and play with equipment all over her body. Have you ever had to work with yearlings/young horses? the same technique is applied here

Hey yeah thanx. I think she may be a little is head shy but she lets me do stuff with her its just she freaks at stuff near her eyes. I have been practising with hands over her eyes and it is going at a steady pace. i am going out to morgan cranes in the holidays and i was going to get her to help me. Thanx heaps though i will try what u have suggested.
